New 2010 Legacy Revealed
Posted on 31. Mar, 2009 by travis in News
Subaru has released images and details of the new 2010 Legacy, set to appear at the New York International Auto Show. The new car is roomier, quieter and more sophisticated than any Legacy before it says Subaru. The Legacy gets an all-new host of engines and transmissions for the 2010 model year making the new GT the most powerful Legacy to hit U.S.-shores.
The big news is the adoption of a 6-speed manual transmission for both 2.5i naturally aspirated vehicles, and the turbocharged GT models. The 6-speed is the same unit found in the 2009 Legacy Spec.B, although Subaru reports it is now 50lbs lighter. The 2.5i models also have an optional CVT transmission.
The 2.5i gets a revised version of Subaru’s SOHC 2.5-liter engine found in the Impreza 2.5i. This is a torquey, fun engine, but will leave the Legacy panting to catch up to some of it’s V6-powered rivals. To rememdy this, Subaru is offering the Legacy with a range-topping 3.6-liter flat 6, previously found in the Tribeca and mated to the new 5-speed automatic box. This mill puts out 265bhp and should quench your power thirst if all you want to do is race Accords and Camrys.
Of course, Subiesport readers will want to know about the turbocharged 2.5-liter GT version. Sporting the same engine as the 2009 WRX, this engine has shown tremendous potential to put down serious power with only mild tweaking in the exhaust and ECU dept. If stock power numbers are any indication, it should have the same turbocharger as the WRX, which is a revamped unit from the 2007 STI.
This new Legacy represents a bold step for Subaru as they move to eliminate some of the quirkiness that has become a hallmark to fans. However, that same quirky ethic has driven some would-be consumers into the arms of Honda and Toyota. Surely this new car will help rectify that problem.

so they got rid of the dual mufflers. Made it look like a Nissan maxima and got rid of the side door handles! I love those things…all I can say is that I can’t wait until the 08-09 GT’s are lower in price. I will pass on this Gen.

Looks like another tall tame bubble car… Does anyone else miss 90’s automotive “architecture”?
One thing’s for sure, no more Legacy sleepers, not with that chassis

That grill has to go. Another reminder that Subaru is going in the wrong direction. They need to retrace their roots.

Looks good! I especially like the beefy flares.
I’m sure it will look more aggressive (and unique) on the spec B version… after all- this one doesn’t even have the trademark hoodscoop yet.

No way another car just got ruined. Seems to me that I have to pass on this gen and stick to my 08 Legacy GT Wagon and 07 STi or perhaps to purchase Mazdaspeed 3, the only car maker with style that didn’t die yet.

Why do they insist on leaving that ugly wing grill? Still no wagon…I love mine.
Sure looks unorginal…quite a mix of several other cars.
Waiting to pass judgment until I see the GT…hoping they ’sport it up’ more and dump that grill.
So far not bad but a little bit flat and fat in the rear.

Absolutely awful. I currently own an 05 LGT and must say this is a disappointing step forward for Subaru. No dual pipes? No subtle sporty looks? It looks the bloated and unwanted love child of a maxima and acura.

Looks like an Acura. Obviously targeting that demographic. I have outgrown my WRX…SO its either a legacy or Forester for me.

Im glad I just got my 09 Legacy the other week….my dealer told me I probably wouldnt like the 2010 model and boy was he right! The front doesnt look that bad but Im hating the back right now. I only have a 09 2.5i Special Edition ( i have a 03 WRX too thus why i didnt go for a GT) but i like the sporty look the current model has and you couldnt beat the price!
Hopefully sales figures force them to rethink their styling by the next time Im looking for a vehicle. Im loyal but if i dont like how it looks im not getting another for sure!

Oh boy….I just bought an ‘09 Legacy three weeks ago and I glad I did. I should have bought two and put one on ice for about ten years. The 2010 model is awful looking. I can’t believe I’m saying this but the camry looks nicer. Come on Subaru, don’t make my first Subie my last!
