Subie Extravaganza Hits Dromo One
This last weekend saw the inaugural event of Subie Extravaganza, a one-day, all-Subaru event sponsored by IWSTI.com and SOCALSUBIES.com. Held at Dromo One, an indoor karting track in sunny Anaheim, Calif. The inaugural event featured kart racing, a car show and a large vendor area as well as RC drifting.
True to its name, the Subie Extravaganza brought out the cream of the SO-CAL Subaru scene with lots of hot show cars, and even a few dirty Imprezas ready for the rally stage. Ali Afshar and his crew from ESX Racing showed with their world-famous 9-second and NHRA championship-winning drag car and their endurance-racing STI (both are for sale if you're looking to start a team of your own).
Crawford showed up with their brand new time attack 2008 STI (look for this car in the next issue of Subiesport), and Subaru tuning legend Ferdie Ang of South Coast Subaru/South Coast Performance was on hand with his 2008 STI, sporting the brand-new Ing’s body kit. Perhaps the most unique car to be seen at the event was the tiny Subaru Rex micro-car brought by Garage Tuning, who also had their new twin-scroll rotated-mount turbo kit on hand.
While everyone baked under the hot California sun outside, inside Subaru fans competed for top honors on the kart track. There was fierce competition with bragging rights and egos on the line to see who could get around Dromo One’s track the fastest. In the end, the top spots were snatched by a pair of Dromo One regulars. My own spot in the top ten was barred by JC Meynet, who refused to yield the line as I stuck to his tail like a fly on a windshield. Next year, JC, next year.
Look for Subie Extravaganza to be back bigger and better in 2009.
