UK Subaru Convoy to Celebrate McRae

Nearly 1300 Subarus will gather in the UK to celebrate the life of Colin McRae and create a convoy which will stretch nearly 20 miles.

Fans up and down the country will be able to watch the convoy as it travels more than 300 miles from Lanark, Scotland to the home of the Subaru World Rally Team in Banbury on Saturday 30 August.

The convoy of Subarus departs the McRae's hometown of Lanark at 1000hrs, led by Jimmy McRae in one of Colin’s original cars, before travelling south. By the time it reaches Birmingham, it will have grown to more than 700 cars and stretch for more than ten miles. Watching from a single point, it will take ten minutes for the memorable note of the flat four boxer engines to pass by.

WCSS X: Mud, Fun and Mud

Img_4366 The 10th-annual West Coast Subaru Show, held in Astoria, Ore., once again proves that Nor’Westers love their Subarus. With everything from lifted and boosted GL wagons to pristine, show-worthy STIs on hand, the show had a little something for every Subaru nut. No Subaru show is complete without a giant mud pit and show goers lined up to paint their exteriors, and spectators, in showers of mud. Back on the tarmac, the car show had a class for just about every Subaru ever made with judging courtesy of Project One. With a few hundred cars, spectators and lots of mud, the WCSS is one of those meets you don’t want to miss.

2009 WRX, What a Sport Compact Should Be

09wrx_1 Fixed. If you needed one word to sum up the changes made to the 2009 WRX, that would be it. Subaru of America has done a fantastic job of distilling the needs and wants of the US-buyer and convincing their Japanese counterparts that America wants a real performance car and not a more “mature,” economical performance car, whatever that is. The 2009 WRX: proof that if you cry loud and hard enough, someone just might listen and give you what you want. You wanted more power? Done. You wanted more aggressive looks? You got it. You wanted better handling and better tires? Your wish is a command. At least the internet is good for something.

Subiefest 2008 - Geat Ready America!

Subiefest3

Third annual Subiefest to be bigger and better than ever; with live music, on-track test drives of the hot, new 2009 Subaru WRX and the Subiesport all-Subaru Time Attack challenge.

Redmond, Washington (PR Web) August 8, 2008 -- Racing enthusiasts mark your calendars to join Subiesport Magazine on the weekend of September 6-7 for the largest all-Subaru motorsport event and festival in North America: Subiefest 2008, presented by Subaru of America and EDO Performance/Zero Sports.

"We're very excited that Subiefest will be just outside of Los Angeles this year, and that we can be part of it," said Edwin Tang, CEO of EDO Performance/Zero Sports. "We traveled over 1,000-miles to attend the 2007 event, and we've never seen such a dedicated and diverse gathering of car enthusiasts. The 2008 event will be incredible!"

Now in it's third year, the Subiefest all-Subaru Shootout and Showoff will be bigger and better than ever, as it takes over the Big Willow race track at Willow Springs, just outside of Los Angeles, California. For the main event, top tuners from around the country will face off in the Subiesport Time Attack Challenge, pitting highly-modified Subarus against the clock to determine who is the fastest in the land. This is where the talk, and the rubber, meet the road in a challenge for ultimate bragging-rights.

Prsubiefest08Japanese racing legend Tarzan Yamada is scheduled to appear, piloting the Crawford Performance 2008 Subaru STI Time Attack race car. Tarzan holds speed records around the world and is well known as regular on the JDM Option DVD series, as well as performing judging duties for the Formula D event series.

Looking to test drive a new 2009 Subaru WRX? Subiefest has partnered with Subaru of America to bring shoppers the ultimate test drive experience: the WRX Track Attack. This unique driving experience will put drivers behind the wheel of a brand-new 2009 Subaru WRX, along with a certified instructor, for a hot lap around the Big Willow race circuit.

More than just racing and driving, Subiefest will also feature live music from Seattle band, "The Endeavors" on the main stage. Their sound has been rocking audiences in the Pacific Northwest to rave reviews for their unique sound and vibrant performance. "The Endeavors" are scheduled to perform during the Saturday night Desert Party, as well as in-between races on Sunday.

Gate entry for Subiefest 2008 is only $10 per day, with practice and the all-night party on Saturday and the main event and show on Sunday. More information and links to register for racing or the Subaru 2009 WRX Track Attack can be found at the official event web site, www.subiefest.com.

2009 WRX: First Video!

600px_graphic We were able to capture this "new animal" in the wild, in it's natural habitat: a gravel rally stage. This is an exclusive Subiesport video, made in conjunction with Driving Sports. In it, Subiesport editor Travis Geny gets to haul serious ass in what is a completely stock 2009 WRX -- outside of the wheels and tires, of course, which are gravel-spec just for the occasion.

Want to drive the 2009 Subaru WRX on a race track? You can at Subiefest 2008 at Willow Springs Raceway, September 6-7 in Rosamond, California. Click for info and to sign up!

2009 WRX - A Whole New Animal

09wrx_4 Yes, after a year of underperforming sales for the WRX model, Subaru has gone back to the drawing board and is now offering up something much appropriate to the name. The new model shares similar sheetmetal with the short-lived 2008 model, but adds a larger turbo, some body kit and improvements to suspension and tires.

Thank the heavens, the new WRX is now punching out 265-horses. That should bode well in the upcoming battle of WRX versus Ralliart Lancer. The "old" 2008 WRX will still be around, but now it's re-badged the Impreza GT and will only be available with a slushbox.

We're going to have a full driving review sooner than you can imagine, but in the meanwhile, take a gander at the official press release and a few pictures. A full gallery is available on our sister-site, my.drivingsports.com.
