2009 WRX: First Video!

600px_graphic We were able to capture this "new animal" in the wild, in it's natural habitat: a gravel rally stage. This is an exclusive Subiesport video, made in conjunction with Driving Sports. In it, Subiesport editor Travis Geny gets to haul serious ass in what is a completely stock 2009 WRX -- outside of the wheels and tires, of course, which are gravel-spec just for the occasion.

Want to drive the 2009 Subaru WRX on a race track? You can at Subiefest 2008 at Willow Springs Raceway, September 6-7 in Rosamond, California. Click for info and to sign up!

I HOPE IT LOOKS BETTER IN PERSON THAN THE 08. HOPEFULLY SUBARU LEARNED THAT THE 08 LOOKS LIKE A FOCUS NOT A SUBARU.

I am excited to drive it with more power and feel the suspension changes.

I have a 2008 and enjoy it more than my 2003 and 2005 WRX's. The 2009 will seemingly be a stage 2 power level vs the 2008 models.

Should be fun!

i have th e08 i love the way my 5dr looks and 09 will be more like a stage 1 id say cuz rly evrything they did we can do for same price only beter + we would change what they put on there anyway so 08's are a bit ahed of the power curb id say

I have the 08 and i already planned on making most of the same changes eventually to my car. Except I can personalize it a bit more. Though i am kinda bummed the 09s have sunroofs... i wanted one sooo bad and its like $1500 to get one installed

I also own a 08 and couldn't be any more happier with it. It's my 4th Subaru and my second turbo subaru so I'm super impressed with it. This video is such a tease ;) Would be nice to see a head to head compar'o between the 08 and 09 just for kicks. And then put the Sti and the 09 Wrx against each other to finish it all off. Great video. Can't wait to test drive the '09 but not trading in my 09 for nothing. The 09's price will probably jump a little higher to pay for the extra parts and moonroof.

I'm glad the imposter is gone and the WRX is back and faster than ever.

I love Subaru's!!!!! But with the extra HP did they upgrade the 5 speed transmission?

I think the 5 speed is the same gearbox as the Legacy. So it should be better than the 2002-2007.

Yeah add 30 horsepower and magically it's a subaru again....

As a 08 owner since Dec 07, I have already upgraded the suspension, wheels, tyres and exhaust and with a pro dyno tune have more power than the 09 and got a great deal on the price as well. Funny how the 'experts' think it is now a great car? Bascially I have been driving a '09'+ since February and can only agree with them on how good it is. The styling though will be always a personal thing.

I am a owner of a 2003 wrx and sad to say but the 2008/2009 look just does not cut it for me particularly the 2008 I mean not only does it not have that mean look by any means at all but its not improved it had some of the worst handling of all the previous years and easily the worst look. The 2009 I can give SOME credit to because it supposedly is going to have some of the best handling and the most power to date for a stock wrx how ever in the look department yes the new design may be more aerodynamic but I would gladly give up the dynamics for that mean hood scoop on a wrx and especially on a sti. Just my two cents though.

Yeah..BUT Subaru doesn't tell you how much of a piece of shit these things really are when you walk through the dealership door. They wont tell you that the gearboxes are made out of tin (i own a 07 5dr.And if they do happen to break..they claim "Abusive Driving" and leave you with a $5K. bill..if you are lucky you will do as I have..find one used out of a total for half that. It's really too bad that the out-drives are stronger than the gearboxes themselves. You may want to contact the dealer and have the "Government bulletin" put in your lap so you can read how you can't sew Subaru for a non-claim...My 07 has shit out two of them in six months and by no means do I dive it "abusively."

Thanks, Josh

Good luck with all of your WRX's

Dear Josh.

you suck at life.

WRX gear boxes are fine, not bullet proof, but fine.

You just need to know how to treat it and not try to drive like a fucking rice boy in an AWD car.

Do some research, and improve yourself as a driver, not likely I'm sure.
