Travis and I are heading down the highway at the crack of dawn on Thursday. Destination: GT Live at Miller Motorsport Park in Utah. We'll be rolling in a 2008 Subaru Outback Sport. I've driven lots of the standard Impreza variants, but this one is suprisingly well equipped for the starting price of $19,995 (ours has an auto-tranny and other goodies bringing it closer to $22k.) For an added road trip bonus, it drinks the cheap gas! If we make it back in one piece you'll read more about our trip and this particular rig in a future issue of the magazine.
Subscribers have already started to receive our latest issue, number 22. This one will really please Legacy fans. And, even if you're more of a WRX or STI guy (or gal) just remember that almost everything do-able to a LGT also applies to you! We cover the complete new motor that went into my personal 2007 Legacy GT project, along with a new Perrin Performance front-mount intercooler and even super-sizing the turbo to a fat AVO 420 (which also is a bolt-on for the the 2008 WRX).
On the cover is the awesome orange 2008 WRX built by Harman Motive, along with AEM and SPT. It first made an appearance at the 2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas and is all sorts of cool. Creative paint job, nice interior and lots of go-fast bits under the hood.
If you like the older, "original" Legacy, you'll love the cherry Legacy Sport Sedan we found roaming around Australia. Of course, they call them Liberties down there, but it's basically the same thing -- only the USDM model didn't ship with an intercooler.
Moving just a few more years forward in the model range and you'll find the final feature on our project from hell: the 1997 Legacy GT SEMA Project we did along with Royal Purple. Now, the guys at RP were awesome the whole way, but the car -- it had other plans. Pick up the issue for all the gruesome details. Oh, and go buy some Royal Purple synth oils. Not only is it good stuff, the guys over there absolutely love Subarus.
For more details on this issue, head over to our official company store, www.carzines.com to read about it, or to buy a physical copy (it will also be on newsstands by July). Also, don't forget, you can preview 15 pages completely free in our digital edition (just click Preview when prompted for a password.)
